Strategy Screenshots

Read time: 58 seconds

Hey hey - super excited for this one today!

(Maybe you noticed something a little different with our header animation ^ 🤓)

This is edition #1 of our pilot for Strategy Screenshots: 1 daily screenshot-sized idea (+ our take, + a topical poll), in a 1-minute read.

You’re getting it before anyone else because you’re one of our most engaged readers (thank you!)

After this week we’ll pause, read every reply, analyse every number, improve every corner, and relaunch when it feels right.

So, I’d LOVE to hear from you about 60 seconds from now - what would you iterate, add, or subtract? Hit reply to this email. Even 1 sentence helps a lot.

Thanks again, hope you enjoy!

— Tom

P.S. If the daily cadence is too much for you, reply to this email and we’ll switch you back to just 1 email per week (the Wednesday breakdowns aren’t going anywhere!)

BUT, since you’re here, there’s a very high chance you’ll enjoy it, and if you give it a chance (and give some feedback along the way) with any luck it might just become the best 1-minute Screenshot-sized segment of your morning 🤓

Athyna

We build the tasks your model fails.

Athyna Intelligence builds what comes after. PhD researchers and domain experts author verified, containerized tasks in the Terminal-Bench and GDPval mold, spanning coding, finance, accounting, engineering, and more.

On our harder tasks, frontier models score 0 out of 5.

Atlassian

Your team uses AI. Does it have a plan?

Nearly every engineering organisation has adopted AI, yet only 1 in 5 developers say their organisation has a clear strategy for using it.

Atlassian surveyed 1,500+ software practitioners to see what that gap costs. The State of Developer Experience Report 2026 comes out tomorrow, October 20.

Until then, check out what developers said were the top friction points last year - hint: even with AI, many of them haven't changed!

Netflix is now the #3 podcast platform

The term "podcast" was coined in 2004, combining "iPod" and "broadcast"

Apple should have dominated the medium.

They took podcasts mainstream by bringing them into iTunes, pioneering the first massive directory in the iTunes store, and growing Apple Podcasts into the undisputed market leading app.

By 2014, Apple commanded around 70% of the podcast market.

Netflix never even built an app. they just put the shows on the TV app people already had on.

Within a year of launching podcasts, Netflix is already ahead of Apple Podcasts, 21% to 15%. Wild when you consider Apple has iPhone distribution, but that’s still overpowered by long-form consumption trending towards the living room.
